I have stood in a lot of weddings. Best man, groomsman, the guy who holds the rings. Last fall I officiated one in Colorado, in a tidy hotel ballroom with good carpet and reliable air conditioning. The vows were beautiful. They were also, frankly, a little too comfortable.
Marriage is the hardest climb most people ever attempt. So why do we keep starting it on flat ground? I think the ceremony should cost something. It should leave you a little out of breath. It should require a 2am start, a working headlamp, and 2,000 feet of vertical gain before anyone says a word.
That is the whole idea behind Peak Matrimony: I help couples summit their vows in places that earn the moment. If you can make it up there together, the rest of the marriage is a downhill traverse.
